Random Acts of Kindness

I love reading stories of RAKs. Seriously, it restores my faith in Humanity, in people. I've also been blessed to be on the receiving end of so many.

Whether it be a card in my mailbox, treating me to chili cheese fries (that I'd been dying to try) taking Zoe for an afternoon so I can get some chores done or just have some quiet time, talking me through a bad day and lots of tears, they all have an impact.

I truly believe, it is small acts, that can have the most impact.

I'm issuing a challenge, along with an incentive.

I challenge you by Thanksgiving, to complete a random act of kindness. (If you have already done one this week, that counts :)

Send a card or letter.
Complete a chore for a family member.
Pay for a stranger's hot chocolate.
Contribute to a food bank.
ETC.

Come back here and leave a comment, for a chance to win a 5.2 lb box (yes, I weighed it) from my stash.

The box contains full to half sheets of paper, lots of embellies, sticker letters ( a few may be missing) rub-ons, even Studio Calico kit exclusives (remember those clouds from Buzz & Bloom, yep there is a full set in there)

Giveaway is open until Thursday, November 22nd. Because of the size of the package, I will only be able to ship to US residents, but I didn't want to leave out international readers, so I will have a drawing for a gift card to somewhere awesome for those participants.

Make sure to leave your e-mail address in the comments so I can find you if you win!

XOXO,
Holly & Co.

  1. Oh, Holly, I adore you. I paid for the groceries for the lady behind me this morning. I feel kinda selfish when I do it, it makes me feel pretty darn good. I <3 you. I'm posting this on the PI FB.

  2. I have two boxes of food I'll be taking to a food bank this coming week, before Thanksgiving :). We've been given so much lately as we struggle to make ends meet, and it feels AMAZING to be able to finally give back a little bit!

  3. this is awesome! I paid for a young girl's gas when she realized she had forgotten her wallet and we are going to give a box or two of food to local food banks through Scouting For Food this weekend! It feels so good to give when we ourselves have been given so much! thanks!

  6. What an awesome big heart you have. I live in the South Jersey area that narrowly escaped Hurricane Sandy's destruction...unfortunaltey neighboring towns were not as lucky...feeling helpless I decided that I needed to make a difference...so my friend and I purchased and donated over $100 dollars worth of toilettetries to a local Emergency Drive, I also donated my time helping to sort and distribute clothing that day. I didn't know a soul there, or anyone directly affected but it felt so good to help out! This Sunday I will be donating my time, hot cocoa and baked goods to another Hurrican Sandy Fundraiser. When my oldest DD posted something on FB thanking me for my RAK and being such a good role model it brought me to tears...That was the greatest reward. I'm sorry this is such a long post ladies...our State has been hit so hard, and it just goes to show how all of us can make a difference no matter how small with RAKS! HUGS to you all - Keep up the good work!

  7. Love RAK and especially if it makes the other person happy. For my RAK I sent an extra Family tree maker software we received to a family member far away that we just found out about over the summer while my husband was on an internship in their state. It was awesome to find new family and since they were working on their family tree and we just got the software (came with an extra one) we decided to send it to them in hopes that they will enjoy it. We also bought a big box of chocolates decorated for the holiday. It was fun and we were excited when they emailed last night to say "thanks!"
Thanks for your RAK and this great opportunity to win a great prize. My email is edewett@gmail.com

  8. we just filled a shoebox with my children for the operation chistmas child. it was lovely to teach them of being generous and help others who don't have as much as we do. my 5 year old wanted to empty his piggy bank and put all his little coins in the shoebox - but money is not allowed in them. i was very pleased with his gesture though.

    thanks for the giveaway!

  11. What a great idea. Get a few more people involved. Every year I donate 10 turkeys and 15 hams the week before Thanksgiving. Yesterday I took and split them with a few organizations around my town. A batters woman's shelter, homeless men's kitcken, our local food bank and a group who provides holiday meals to familys in need. I've done this for a few years. But also this morning after seeing the we on and children at the she alter I took all of my cloths that don't fit or I don't wear. All it great shape. And some smell good shower items. They were so thankfull I have never see lady's so surprised that someone would think of them and help them. This will be an added tradition for years to come.

  12. Such a wonderful thing to encourage! My RAK this week was sending washi tape to someone that (gasp) didn't have any and wanted to try it - and our family will be doing Angel Tree presents this year as well. I'm going to try to keep this in my mind and look for more opportunities to make someone else's day brighter!

  13. My RAK- I took 8 care packages to Safe Harbor (a local battered woman shelter). Four had basic toiletries, some new robes and gift cards to Wal-Mart. The other 4 were children's with Diapers, Pull-ups, Wipes, and baby/toddler clothes. People do not generally think about the small things that they need every day in these shelters and these are the things that they needed the most.
I also dropped off some small fleece throw blankets and a box of food items @ the local Salvation Army Homeless Shelter and took 2 boxes of Thanksgiving makings to Harvest Hope. (A local food bank)

Thanks for the chance to win this awesome RAK package.

  17. I love RAK's! Someone on front of me in line was short on money for their purchase and instead of letting them put an item back, I gave them the balance due on the order. I sent out a package of scrapbook/smash goodies to a person who had lost everyting in a house fire and to another person who was new to the craft and just had a baby. We (my family) also leave coins at the local store that has a toy horse the kids can ride. RAK's are in our blood!

  19. Such a fun thing to do! every year for my birthday i do the same number of random acts of kindness as the age i'm turning. So this month that means 32! this week so far i've bought a turkey for our local shelter, paid for someone's lunch, paid for someone's dinner, bought pumpkin spice creamer for the work coffee club (i don't drink coffee), paid for someone's breakfast. gave a customer waiting to be seated at Denny's a %20 off thier meal coupon, invited someone with no place to go for thanksgiving to our home and donated to the trevor project.
very random list but by the time it's my birthday, the 27th. i'm just SO filled with love and appreciation for the blessings in my life.

  23. Love this! I had an extra copy of some printed online class materials so I sent them to someone in the class who wanted them (a stranger) for free. It was nice, and felt like paying back the "universe" for some nice crafty things people had done for me. Email address should be linked or on my blog, thank you!

  25. Oh - what a fabulous idea for a giveaway! I have been thinking about this over the past couple of day since I saw this post, and it made me realize all the little ways I do it during a day without even realizing it...or how many opportunities I miss without even knowing it! So...today I did one for my 8 and 9 year old daughters. It is their job and responsibility to fold their own laundry and put it away - and tonight, for no particular reason, I did it for them! It was sweet to see their faces when they realized I was doing it for them this time - and they could relax and watch a movie with Daddy instead! Thanks for the giveaway - and for making such a wonderful suggestion!

  26. What a wonderful idea! I love doing R.A.K.'s they make me feel so happy, especially when I get to see the person's face lite up. :) Every year at Thanksgiving my siblings and I draw each others names for Christmas. This year I am in the process of organizing a new idea that will hopefully become a tradition. Instead of getting each other gifts each sibling with their family will perform a RAK or donate to some organization the $$ they would have spent on gifts and then report back on Christmas day what they did! Can't wait to hear the stories. :)

  29. This is so sweet of you!

I just got back from mailing out a box of my extra supplies from the Basic Grey warehouse sale to a Frozen Pea so she could have something new to create with.

I spent this past week getting bags of clothing ready to take to the family shelter for the colder weather.

Tomorrow I'm covering my coworker's duties so he can spend the day with his mom and her fiance who just got out of the hospital yesterday.

  30. because my neighbor is older, i try to always do something nice for him. this week, i grabbed his trash on my way to the dumpster. it doesn't seem like much, but it really made his day!

  31. Wow! This is great!

The other day while in the grocery, a woman and her kids were short a couple dollars to finish paying for their groceries. My college is located a few towns over from a very poor. I gave her the extra couple of dollars she needed. It warmed my heart to see the gratefulness in her children's eyes.

  33. This challenge inspired to think of what else I could do even though money is tight right now. I'm a teacher and sometimes get Starbucks cards from my students. Since I don't go to Starbucks, I decided to give away the cards. Oh my goodness, it's amazing to see how something I wouldn't use could bring such a smile to someone else's face!

I also keep scanning the FSOT board at TwoPeas to see what I can send people from my stash. It's usually small stuff, but the recipients seem to get a kick out of it.

And I realized I never posted my email back on the 18th. It's justcallmegail@gmail.com
